Two highly lauded participants featured on the Power of Soul: A Tribute Jimi Hendrix album and their tracks from the collection are very much in focus this week.

Robert Randolph and The Family Band will bring their brilliant version of “Purple Haze” to life on Late Night with Conan O’Brien on NBC this Thursday night, February 10. Randolph’s pedal steel lead on the song underscores the artist’s innovative powers and the timelessness of the Jimi Hendrix classic. The track was, not coincidentally, recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York, the state-of-the art facility that was founded by Jimi Hendrix in 1969

On Sunday, February 13, Grammy winners will be announced and one of those nominated this year is Musiq Soulchild for his version of “Are You Experienced?” that is also featured on Power of Soul. The track by the inventive Philadelphia-based artist is a contender in the Best Urban Alternative category.

Power of Soulis a 19 track collection that includes interpretations of Jimi Hendrix songs by Santana, Prince, Sting, Earth, Wind & Fire, Bootsy Collins, Eric Clapton, Lenny Kravitz, Devoted Spirits, Velvet Turner, Chaka Khan, Sounds of Blackness, Eric Gales, Cee-Lo, John Lee Hooker and Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble. It was released last year by Experience Hendrix through Imagine Entertainment.

Experience Hendrix, L.L.C., the family owned company entrusted with preserving and protecting the legacy of Jimi Hendrix. While the core of its operation concerns Jimi Hendrix's music, name, and likeness, it is also a production company that has released DVDs and CDs that represent influences on or inspiration from the life and work of Jimi Hendrix. It is responsible for the acclaimed American Folk Blues Festival series as well as the forthcoming (March 22nd release) A Tribute to Earth, Wind & Fire by Devoted Spirits through Thump Records.
