“Hey Joe” b/w “Stone Free” was the first single to put Jimi Hendrix on the map; but it was “Purple Haze” that made him a superstar. With a rough set of initial lyrics penned backstage before a gig at London’s The Upper Cut club in December 1966, the song’s evolution eventually saw the finished song debut as a UK single in March 1967 and later in the starring role as the opening track on US release of The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s debut album Are You Experienced in August 1967.

Experience Hendrix and the Hendrix family are saddened to learn of the passing of legendary keyboardist and session musician Mike Finnigan who passed away yesterday at the age of 76.

For more than 50 years Mike has been involved in the music industry and recorded or toured with the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Peter Frampton, Cher, Ringo Starr, David Coverdale, Bonnie Raitt, Etta James, Joe Cocker, Steve Winwood; Crosby, Stills & Nash among a host of others.

Experience Hendrix and the Hendrix family are deeply saddened at the passing of Lithofayne “Faye” Pridgon at the age of 80.

By 1964, Jimi Hendrix had gravitated to Harlem, the home for black music on the East Coast. It was here that Jimi met Faye, a fixture in the Harlem scene, in a club.
