Paul McCartney paid musical tribute to rock and roll legend Jimi Hendrix at the Isle of Wight festival.

The Beatles icon performed a set of Hendrix’s hits, to mark the 40th anniversary of the rocker’s legendary performance at the festival, which was his last major event before he died.

Tens of thousands of fans went crazy as the 67-year-old took to the stage, reported Daily Mail online. “We’re going to have fun tonight,” he said before diving into the Beatles’ track All My Loving and waved the British flag across the stage.

To honour Hendrix, Macca sang Purple Haze at the end of Let Me Roll It.
